App design & development

The Treefort Music Fest is a five-day, indie rock festival held at numerous venues throughout downtown Boise, Idaho. The festival features over 30 venues spread across downtown Boise, each hosting a variety of musical performances and events.

CMCW created a live digital installation for the event.

Venue Visualization (VenueViz) encompassed a dynamic isometric map of downtown Boise showcasing all the festival venues. Each venue was represented by a colored box with orbiting particles. As venues built up their capacities in real-time, the particles increased in volume, density, and orbit speed. VenueViz polled the festival app's API for capacity information and adjusted particle behaviours accordingly.

In addition, the installation overlaid the festival schedule on the map, periodically highlighting a venue and displaying current and upcoming bands in real-time. VenueViz was exhibited at the event headquarters over the course of the festival.

Hashtag Horserace

Another program, Hashtag Horserace, was inspired by Edwaerd Muybridge's 1887 camera shed installation, which studied the motion of galloping horses.
