The Very Dynamic Box

CMCW crafted 3 elegant black walnut boxes to display various data visualizations. Styled to look like a curious industrial revolution artifact, The Very Dynamic Box is a strange hybrid of stereoscopes and large glass plate cameras from the Victorian era.
The front of the box housed replaceable transparent slides, mapped to an LED array governed by an Arduino microcontroller housed inside.

The Very Dynamic Box was a proof of concept utilizing acetate templates to display several data visualization programs. One program was a simulation of population density in Boise. The program displayed Treefort festival attendees moving between music venues in the city. The resultant heat map shows colors spreading across the city grid with differing light intensities. Cooler blue/green colours represented small numbers of festival goers and hot orange red colours represented larger crowds. The information was sped up times 60 to show 1 hour's movement in 1 minute.

Hashtag Horserace

Another program, Hashtag Horserace, was inspired by Edwaerd Muybridge's 1887 camera shed installation, which studied the motion of galloping horses.

Testimonials

I worked with James for over 10 years in Technological University Dublin. Not only does James have top class cross platform design skills, he also has a deep understanding of teasing out and determining client needs and capabilities. This was a critical skill to us in academia as it complimented the academic experts who are traditionally not enterprise facing and don't speak a commercial language. By being a bridge between these two worlds, he was extraordinarily effective at managing projects and delivering solutions on time and on budget. He was particularly skillful at developing proposals and writing reports that would meet both academic and commercial standards. This is a fairly unique skillset, in my opinion

“James Wogan was instrumental in the rebranding of NAES and working with our Senior Executives and Marketing Team to develop the essence of the changed company in its new logo, Marketing materials, and design vision. He closely listened to the needs of the project and managed brainstorming sessions in the company to understand the complexity and distill it down to key communication points that we use in the industry to showcase our brand to clients.”

"I have been able to maintain and refresh my client base for years by investing in a well designed website. When updates were needed James was easily able to jump back into the project and re-envision my website goals. I would recommend James to any career professional looking to succinctly express their ideas and build a brand they can proudly display."
